In 2001, Mrs. Mangal Shah and her daughter, Dimple, witnessed an unimaginable tragedy when two abandoned, HIV-positive infants were discovered in a cow shed, left to fend for themselves in appalling conditions. Working tirelessly to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS in their community, they found that not a single hospital or organization would admit the children due to their HIV status. Faced with this harsh reality, they were moved to action.
For over two decades, Palawi has stood as a beacon of hope, serving the most marginalized children and young adults in society. What started as an immediate response to a crisis has grown into a holistic program dedicated to offering shelter, medical aid, education, nutrition, and psychosocial support. Palawi’s work extends beyond care, aiming to break the cycles of stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV, while empowering its residents to build dignified, fulfilling lives.
At Palawi, under the guidance of Prabha Hira Pratisthan, we are dedicated to providing HIV-positive orphaned children with a nurturing environment where they can find hope, health, and education. Society often overlooks or stigmatizes these vulnerable children, but we stand by them, offering shelter, emotional support, and a path to a brighter future. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to live a dignified life, regardless of their health challenges or socio-economic background.
Before coming to Palawi, many of our HIV+ children had never experienced consistent schooling.
Through praise, encouragement, and positive reinforcement, we instill confidence in our HIV+ children.
To ensure our HIV+ children’s long-term well-being, we provide them with vocational training in various fields.
Our young destitute adults are encouraged to participate in social projects and awareness programs.
Palawi’s mission is rooted in creating life-changing opportunities for vulnerable children and women affected by HIV/AIDS. By offering vocational training, access to education, and pathways to income generation, Palawi helps them lead lives of dignity and resilience. Through our work, we aim to foster safer behaviors and transform communities to build a more inclusive society where everyone has the chance to thrive.
Palawi envisions a world where HIV-positive orphans and vulnerable individuals are treated with dignity and respect. We aim to curb the HIV epidemic while expanding our services to encompass holistic support—nutritional, social, educational, and legal assistance. By including the most marginalized communities, we strive to empower them to become agents of change.
Guided by decency, respect, trust, and citizenship, Palawi stands firmly with the vulnerable, working at the grassroots level to make a tangible difference. We believe in the transformative power of compassion and empowerment, offering a discrimination-free environment where each child can thrive. Our values underpin our approach, ensuring that every individual is treated with honor, support, and a commitment to their well-being and success.
We are honored to have the support and encouragement of people who believe in our cause. Here’s what some of our esteemed donors have to say about Palawi’s work and impact.
Every small act counts and helps us continue our mission of love and support for the underserved.
