Palawi-Ankur:- (This project is currently closed due to Corona.) As one of the most-at-risk populations, female sex workers (FSWs) have long been a target of public health interventions aimed at reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS. To most people, the sex work industry is considered taboo; sex work is often illegal and transactional sex tends to be associated with stigma and discrimination. In such a given scenario Palawi launched a new project “Palawi- Ankur” targeting one of the most vulnerable group- “’the children of female sex workers ‘’. There are several vulnerabilities affecting children of FSWs that has been noted including, separation from parents, sexual abuse, and early sexual debut, introduction to sex work, low school enrolment, psychosocial issues and social marginalization. The Pilot project started in Pune in June 2019, Maharashtra mainly focused on providing opportunities for children of Female sex workers by giving them vocational trainings, professional skills and educational support. At present 15-20 such children visit the organization on weekends and learn various training courses such as candle making, quilt making, embroidery and stitching, artificial flowers making, jewellery art etc. The excitement and sincerity of the children has given an excellent start to the new project.
Shravan- seva:- During the childhood days, our mother had taught us various Sanskrit and Marathi shlokas which meant. “Always serve for the poor, orphan or disabled. You should spare more time for those who needed.”We have seen our mother living in the same way. Life is an imaginary journey. We really don’t know about the next moment. Surprisingly we often are coming across the immense experiences every day. Our mother has spontaneous overflow of different ideas of serving. One of them is ‘Shravan seva.’Somebody had asked “Mahatma Gandhi-What is first-thinking or action?” Gandhiji replied- “I think while acting.”Same is the idea is moulding a shape in our mind that she has started implementing it. Mentally retarted, disabled, destitute people are in large numbers in Pandharpur. Bai has seen such people urging for food to passengers, people on the road or onybody they see. Bai decided to feed them fresh food- named ‘Shravan seva’.Shravan had served his own parents. Here, Bai differed none, the entire world is mine.Bai herself is a nice cook and she desperately loves cooking. Not only she decided to distribute fresh and warm food but also she herself cook it. Everyday a new dish and fresh and warm.Since, this Diwali of 2019 steamed rice and tasty sambar is being distributed on the railway station, Pandharpur. The number of beneficiaries was at first 60, now it is lengthened to 200-205. Palawi children alone with new ancestors like Ravidatta and Poonam, deratedly serving these people every day by their own hands. Their participation and contribution deserve a long- lasting appreciation. Now comes the second phase. Such people, who hadn’t bathed since last many years, lice have made their house in whose hairs, none can go near them because of stink, odour. Bai spread her king and helping hands towards such people. She took them to Palawi, bathed them with hot water and soap, cleaned them, cut their hair and finally, welcomed them in our community. Live with us:- The pleasure after the loving showers and fresh food of those people is really speechless. You shoald experience it… “Shravan seva.”
