Onkar, a child born with HIV, was only 12-15 days old when he was brought to Palawi by a caring social volunteer. His story began with significant health challenges due to complications related to his mother’s HIV-positive status during pregnancy. Weak, malnourished, and battling various health issues, Onkar’s future seemed uncertain.
Onkar’s early days were filled with constant crying and discomfort. His body was unable to retain even the most basic form of nourishment milk. He suffered from frequent loose motions, and his tiny body struggled to fight recurring fevers. These symptoms were signs of severe nutritional deficiency and the overall fragility of his health.
The Palawi team, under the guidance of medical experts and caregivers, immediately took measures to stabilize Onkar’s condition. Recognizing the need for specialized care, they provided him with a regimen of powdered milk, gentle massages with ghee made from cow’s milk, and regular sessions of Agnihotra (a healing technique) to create a nurturing environment for him.The combination of these traditional and modern healthcare practices began to show positive effects. Slowly, Onkar’s body started accepting nourishment, and his overall health began to improve. His loose motions reduced significantly, and the bouts of fever subsided.
Now, at 1.8 months old, Onkar is a thriving and adorable baby. He’s not only healthier but also more active. He has reached several developmental milestones—he can now walk and is even trying to speak. His once fragile and sickly demeanour has transformed into that of a smiling, curious child, radiating joy and warmth to everyone around him.
Onkar’s story is a testament to the care and dedication of the Palawi team. From a critically ill newborn to a vibrant 1.8-month-old, his transformation is nothing short of miraculous. The road ahead is still long, but with continued support, Onkar has the opportunity to grow up healthy and happy, surrounded by the love and care that every child deserves.
Onkar’s journey wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity and support of Give.do NO CHILD ORPHAN CAMPAIGN who believe in creating a better future for children living with HIV. By supporting Palawi, you are helping us to ensure that more children like Onkar receive the care, love, and medical attention they need to overcome the challenges they face and grow into healthy, happy individuals.
Sumati (name changed for privacy) came into the world under dire circumstances. Born to an HIV-positive mother, she was abandoned at the hospital immediately after birth. Alone and critically ill, her fragile body struggled to sustain life. It was only due to the prompt intervention of the hospital’s doctors, who identified her as HIV-positive and transferred her to Palawi, that Sumati’s story took a hopeful turn.
When Sumati arrived at Palawi, she was so weak that it was hard to tell if she was breathing. The team at Palawi, recognizing the critical nature of her condition, quickly rushed her to a paediatrician, who recommended that she be admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Sumati spent the next 15-20 days under constant monitoring and specialized care in the NICU. It was a challenging period for her and the Palawi team, who anxiously watched over her, hoping for signs of improvement.
Thanks to the dedication and expertise of the doctors who treated her free of cost, Sumati’s condition gradually stabilized. Once she was strong enough, she was brought back to Palawi, a place she now calls home.unfortunately she was unable to seat, stand and walk. But The team at Palawi developed a unique care plan for Sumati.
She was fed with powdered milk, and regular nasal drops and gentle massages by Mangaltai daily with ghee were administered to nourish her and strengthen her fragile body. These traditional techniques, combined with modern medical support, worked wonders for Sumati’s health and she is running everywhere now. She has the wings to fly.
Today, Sumati is a testament to resilience and hope. From a newborn struggling to survive to a healthier, more vibrant child, she has made remarkable progress. Her once frail body is now steadily gaining strength, and she is growing up under the loving care of the Palawi family.
The team at Palawi is committed to ensuring that Sumati, like every other child in their care, gets the best possible start in life. They continue to work tirelessly to provide her with the resources and support she needs to thrive.
Sumati’s journey wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity and support of Give.do NO CHILD ORPHAN CAMPAIGN who believe in creating a better future for children living with HIV. By supporting Palawi, you are helping us to ensure that more children like Onkar receive the care, love, and medical attention they need to overcome the challenges they face and grow into healthy, happy individuals.
Sumati’s story is just one among many at Palawi.
Every small act counts and helps us continue our mission of love and support for the underserved.
